A new era begins for Jonathan Rea in 2024. Following his departure from Kawasaki at the end of 2023, he’ll race alongside Andrea Locatelli at the Pata Prometeon Yamaha team. After so much success with Kawasaki, the #65 will be hoping his new chapter brings the success as his old one as he looks to win an unprecedented seventh world title.
Rea first began to race on the tarmac in 2003 following an early career in motocross. Impressing in the British Superbike Championship, he moved up onto the world stage in 2008, finishing as the World Supersport runner-up.
Continuing his journey through WorldSBK with Honda, he secured 15 victories with the Japanese manufacturer from 2009 to 2014 in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. Making a bold leap over to the green machines of Kawasaki Racing Team for 2015, the Northern Irish rider has never looked back. Taking 104 victories over nine seasons, he dominated and became the man to beat as he broke almost every single record.
Becoming the first rider in history to take four back-to-back WorldSBK titles in 2018, the Ulsterman stormed to a sparkling fifth World Superbike crown in 2019 – becoming the first rider in the history of the Championship to do this. He has also set all-time highs for race wins, points (for both, overall and in a single season), podiums and fastest laps. However, he relinquished his crown after six consecutive titles in 2021 and has yet to claim it back, first to Razgatlioglu and then twice to Bautista. Will the Yamaha move allow Rea to write even more history?
